La Patria de Mi Madre

La Patria de Mi Madre brought together eleven female Latin American artists exploring the converging threads of homeland and matriarchal legacy through a diasporic lens.
Spanning film, performance, poetry, photography and generative new media, the exhibition considered each artist’s relationship with their patria maternal. Moving across Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador and Brasil, the works transformed cultural tensions, memory and folkloric traditions into contemporary dialogue, mapping an intimate cartography of inheritance and identity.
At the centre of the exhibition was the distance that can emerge between generations of women across migration: the grandmother who remains in her country of origin, the mother who chooses to leave, and the daughter raised away from her family’s homeland. Alongside this alienation, La Patria de Mi Madre considered companionship and community as enduring forces of belonging and resistance, allowing these histories and memories to converge through each artist’s work.

KHARITES brought together twenty female and non-binary artists working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography and other media. Taking its title from the Kharites — the three Greek goddesses associated with grace, beauty, creativity, adornment, joy, festivity, dance and song — the exhibition considered how these ideas might be translated into contemporary artistic practice.
The Kharites were thought to preside over the pleasures of life: play, amusement, happiness, rest and relaxation. Through the works on view, KHARITES explored how playfulness, beauty and the divine might be embraced within the contemporary world, and how the ethereal can be woven through the everyday. The exhibition formed the opening of a four-week programme of screenings, workshops, discussions and collaborative events, creating a space for experimentation and exchange between female and non-binary creatives.
