Emerging Creative: Sarah Fassold
Tell us a bit about yourself, and how you became interested in photography.
My name is Sarah Fassold and I'm an Austrian Photographer and Pianist based in London.
I grew up surrounded by forest, having the opportunity to build a strong bond with Mama Nature.
I relish working with natural light in natural surroundings.
I guess my images are just visual poems of an accumulation of memories together with ideas from the universe, mixed with my current state of being and those in the team.
I work in phases, learning for a few months, shooting for a few months, learning, shooting, and so on.
I‘m still a beginner, so I haven’t figured it all out yet, but that’s how I work at the moment.
I really just wanna take beautiful images for the rest of my life and to live adventures
How long ago did you photographing?
It happened on one evening back home in Austria, about four years ago. I had a boyfriend at this time and he caught me crying, not knowing how to proceed with my life and where to focus on. He handed me a a piece of paper and pen and told me to write down all the things I love to do. And so I did, I drew a line and Photography was the conclusion. I wouldn’t have to leave out any of my interests in Photography. By that time I never touched a camera, so it was a dive into the unknown and I’m still there, loving it, seeing a path, a journey. I’ll be forever grateful for my ex boyfriend.
What is a piece you always go back to?
It‘s a soundtrack from one of my favourite artists of all times, Vangelis. The track is called ‘Blush Response‘, it‘s from Blade Runner. I meditate with it, lose myself completely in it.
What is a something you like to channel through your work?
Presence, healing and awareness.
Do you have any women in that industry that serve as role models to you/particularly inspire you?
I admire the work from a huge amount of female Photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Cindy Sherman, Corrine Day, Liv Liberg and many others. Although my inspiration does not come from others.
What’s been your favourite work to date?
Oh that is almost impossible to answer for me. At the moment I like the image of Lydia and the horse in black and white. The context is the bare truth of what was going on inside me to this time, I was ready to show it. With Lydia, my very good friend in Austria, and her horse it was a perfect combination of elements. The shoot in general was prepared well, there was a good flow
What would you choose as a soundtrack to your work?
During a shoot there is always music. When it's my shoot-playlist it will cover a huge spectrum of genres, from. The Future Sound of London, over David Bowie, to Charles Schillings.
When I come up with ideas, retouch or edit it‘s silent, maybe some delta waves or egyptian drums..
